LemonStand Now

Not much in ecommerce takes me by surprise anymore but the announcement of LemonStand Now sure did. I have long been a fan of LemonStand and think they have a great product considering how young it is, so I am excited to see how they transform that into a SaaS Shopping Cart.

I expect there will be issues with the PHP templating system they use, as CoreCommerce found out in August 2011, but they are smart cookies so I am confident they will have a solution.

My biggest complaint about LemonStand has always been that small businesses need to buy sme pretty expensive web hosting to make it run at full speed, but with a hosted solution based around Firehost and the Akamai CDN that will no longer be an issue.

At the moment the software is in closed beta, but you can be sure as soon as I get to see it I will let you know how it goes. There is no word on pricing or what will happen with LemonStand licensed but if the lessons of magento Community Edition and Interspire are anything to go by once a company moves to a hosted version they slowly but surely either kill off the licenced product or let it die of negligence – lets hope not they were making a great product.

    Hi Andrew

I read on one of your post replies but can’t find it now that that SEO on these hosted carts is ok but a developer will need to do more tweeks to the cart to really get you top results for your niche.

I wonder if you could add to that as to what I would need to tell a developer to maybe put in place so I can get the best I can with SEO for my niche. I’m at the moment trying to decide on what platform, Corecommerce, Shopify, BigCommerce or see what this Lemonstand Now is going to be about.

    Kind Regards
    Phil

I will write more about that in the coming week Phil, each cart is lacking in different ways – but the biggest issue I see with stores is the lack of unique content, images and product descriptions. They all seem to copy and paste from the upstream manufacturers – does nothing to help a website stand out form the crowd.

Great Andrew I shall look forward to your further post about how to make the cart more focused on SEO with their product pages and images.
