Getting into Windows when you have lost your password

Windows LogoLast night I had a shocker. “Somehow” I managed to change my Windows password and forgot it just as quickly. Normally this wouldn’t be a major drama – just log into another Administrator account and reset it. Except, there were no other accounts on my Windows Vista machine and by default the Vista Administrator account is hidden and disabled.

After hours freaking out and trying in vain to remember what I had set as the new password and Googling ways to hack the password out from a recovery setup I stumbled upon Offline Password and Registry Editor.

The Offline Password and Registry Editor is a bootable Linux distribution and toolkit to among other things blank your Windows Vista Password so you can log in again after you have forgotten it or been locked out.

It is dead simple to use and from start to finish you can be back logged into Windows in under 10 minutes. I will prepare a step by step in the nbext few days and post it here.
