Never thought I would have been hit with enough emails to need a FAQ but I was wrong (and I love it).
Who drew my cartoon (and does it look like the real me) ?
I was drawn by http://designfxpro.com/mascotdesign.html a couple of years ago – at the time it cost about $300 USD, no idea about the current costs. I sent them a few photos and told them what I wanted to be doing and wearing – they did a brilliant job.
Who designed my website ?
It seems that it is no secret that I can’t draw. This site was designed by Nighean O’Brien she did a smoking job – check out the portfolio on her website she is crazy good, and a pleasure to work with.
What’s my favourite shopping cart ?
I really don’t have one. Each have there own advantages and weaknesses so I keep a deck of them and use the most appropriate – sometimes I write them myself from scratch if that is what is needed. My core choices are Big Commerce, Core Commerce, Shopify, Volusion and WP ecommerce – not necessarily in that order.
Why WordPress and not Joomla ?
For this job WordPress was a better fit. I love Joomla but it wasn’t a good fit for me. There are many times I have chosen Joomla over WordPress – I think any developer that swears his allegiance to one and only one solution is doing his customers a massive diservice. You need to have a thorough working knowledge of as many CMS, Shopping Carts and platforms as possible so that at any stage you can pull out the best tool for any job.
Do you charge per hour or per job ?
Both, I will always give you (or give you the option of) a fixed price for a job that is clearly defined. If there is a gray area I will give you a fixed price for what I can and an hourly for the rest – if you have a job you want done get in touch I love to work.
What blogs do I read ?
I subscribe to a lot but only fully read a few – mostly I scan them just to see if anything new is being written – usually it is mostly juts the same nonsense.
Search Marketing Wisdom (Alan Bleiweiss) – this bloke spills more knowledge than a drunk encyclopedia salesman – full of passion and a lot of fun.
Sugar Rae – Always been a huge fan. She is as smart and as insightful as blokes like Michael Gray but you don’t feel like you’re getting sold to. Our industry needs more like her, sadly it seems the world can only handle one of her.
Edward Lewis – Very technical. Always thorough and a great dry sense of humour. I hope he comes back to twitter it was a lot more fun when he was around.
David Harry – If you can keep up more detailed SEO discussion happens around this bloke than any other. Twitter, his blog and SEO Dojo find him and soak it up – you will be a better geek for it.
